Why is the classic GUI missing on my Victron Cerbo GX MK2?
I've just fired up my system and the classic GUI doesn't show anymore on my Cerbo GX MK2. It's giving me a completely different layout on the GX Touch and on my web browser. How do I get the old familiar screen back?
Answer
Your Cerbo GX MK2 has automatically updated to Venus OS v3.30 or newer, which defaults to the new GUI-v2 interface instead of the classic layout. You can switch back to the classic GUI by going to your display settings and changing the active user interface.
Why the interface changed
Victron recently rolled out major updates to Venus OS. This introduced a rewritten interface known as GUI-v2. The layout relies on a modern framework designed to provide better visualisations for marine electrical systems. It handles multiple MultiPlus inverters, solar MPPTs and high-output alternators. The Cerbo GX MK2 features a faster dual-core processor than the original MK1 unit, allowing it to run this heavy graphics engine without lagging. Because of this extra processing power, Victron sets the new GUI as the default on MK2 hardware during firmware updates. If your boat connects to the internet via Wi-Fi or a 4G router and is set to auto-update, it pulled down the latest firmware and applied the new look overnight.
Restore via GX Touch
If you have a GX Touch 50 or GX Touch 70 screen hardwired into the HDMI and USB ports of your Cerbo, restoring the old look takes just a few taps. The new interface operates differently, but the core settings menu remains accessible.
- Tap anywhere on the screen to wake it up and bring up the bottom menu bar.
- Select Menu on the right side, then scroll down to find Settings.
- Open the Display & language menu.
- Look for the setting named User interface or Display UI.
- Tap it and change the selection from GUI-v2 (or New) back to Classic (or GUI-v1).
The screen will go blank for a second and then reload. It will display the familiar tiled interface you are used to.
Accessing via local Wi-Fi
If you lack a dedicated touch screen and rely on a tablet or laptop connected to the local network of the boat, the method differs. Typing the Cerbo IP address (for example, 192.168.1.50) or cerbogx.local into your browser now automatically loads the HTML5-based GUI-v2 app. To bypass this and get the old Remote Console back, you need to alter the web address.
Instead of just typing the IP address, type http://192.168.1.50/remote-console into your browser address bar. Replace the numbers with the actual IP of your unit. This forces the Cerbo to load the classic Remote Console. From there, you can click through the standard menu using your mouse or touchscreen. Head into the Display settings and switch the global default back to Classic so you do not have to type the long web address every time.
